Our Believe

ABQAC Doctrinal Statement — Non-negotiable stands that we hold as we labour to promote Bible quizzing across Africa.

These doctrinal points of affirmations and denials offer a brief overview of our core beliefs, but they aren't exhaustive. They are non-negotiable stands that we hold to as we labour to promote Bible quizzing across the African continent. Through a high and intense educational format of scriptural memorization, study, and competitive quiz tournaments, we seek to build a generation of young people that will glow with God's word in their hearts, minds, service, and lifestyles.

I

God — The Trinity

We believe that God is a being completely perfect in all His attributes: holiness Isaiah 6:3; righteousness and justice Deut. 32:4; love, mercy and grace Exod. 34:6; truth and faithfulness Tit. 1:2; Ps. 36:5. He is all knowing, everywhere present and all powerful Matt 28:20. Three Persons exist as one being — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit Matt. 28:19.

The Father

He had the plan of salvation and sent the Son to die for the sins of mankind John 3:16.

The Son

The only mediator between God and man 1 Tim. 2:5. Lived sinlessly, died redemptively, rose bodily Heb. 4:15; Rom. 6:9.

The Holy Spirit

A person, not a force John 16:13. He convicts, indwells believers at salvation, and is the author of God's Word II Pet. 1:21.

We do not believe in Modalism or Arianism.
II

Creation

We believe that God created the whole universe in six literal days and that the world was created approximately 6,000 years ago Exod. 20:11. God rested on the seventh day Gen. 2:2.

We do not believe in evolutionary creation theory or any other creation theory.
III

Man

We believe that man was created by God (male and female), in God's image Gen. 1:27. Through man's free will, he sinned and was condemned Rom. 6:23. Sin passed upon all men from birth Rom. 5:12; Psalm 51:5. Reconciliation is only through Christ Rom. 5:11. God made man with spirit, body and soul I Thess. 5:23.

IV

Scripture

We believe that the Bible is God's inspired word II Tim. 3:16; II Pet. 1:21. We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the sixty-six books of Scripture. The Bible is entirely infallible and inerrant Prov. 30:5; John 17:17. The Bible is complete — God no longer gives new revelations Rev. 22:18–19. We do not believe that the Old Testament is irrelevant to believers today.

We do not believe in Theological Liberalism or the Apocrypha and other writings outside the 66-book canon.
V

Salvation

We believe salvation is only by grace through faith alone, apart from any merit or works Eph. 2:8–9. Salvation has three aspects: justification (saved from the penalty of sin), sanctification (saved from the power of sin), and glorification (saved from the presence of sin). Those who trust Christ are eternally secure Rom. 8:35–39.

We do not believe in Baptismal regeneration, Pelagianism, or Universalism.
VI

The Church

We believe the church is a called-out assembly with two aspects: the Body of Christ and the local church Matt. 3:11; Eph. 1:22–23. There are two offices (Pastor and Deacon) and two ordinances (baptism and the Lord's table). The church is independent and is responsible only to God.

VII

Separation

We believe the Bible commands separation from false teachers Rom. 16:17–18 and from disobedient or disorderly brethren II Thess. 3:6. Church discipline is a necessary function intended for repentance and restoration. Believers should personally abstain from sinful and worldly behaviors.

VIII

Marriage

We believe marriage is an earthly representation of Christ's relationship with the church Eph. 5:23. God's intention is for one man and one woman joined together for life. Beginning from creation, marriage was designed as a union between a man and a woman only Gen. 1:27; 2:24; Matt. 19:5.

IX

The Second Coming of Christ

We believe that before Christ's seven years of Judgment (Tribulation), Christ will return and take His own (the Church) to live with Him I Thess. 4:16–17; Rev. 4:1. After the Tribulation, Christ will return and destroy His enemies, casting Satan into the bottomless pit for 1,000 years. After the great white throne judgment, the unsaved will be eternally condemned Rev. 20:13–14, but the saved will be with Christ forever Rev. 22:5.

We do not believe in Annihilationism.
